In 1492 Christopher Columbus visited the island (Dominican Republic) in which he named it Hispaniola/"Little Spain." Four years later Spaniards made the first Spanish colony in Western hemisphere-- Santo Domingo. Yet, 1822, Haitian President Jean-Pierre Boyer annexes Santo Domingo. Many rulers take over and create utter chaos and dictatorship throughout the years of their ruling. However, in 1862 President Pedro Santana returned the Dominican Republic to the Spanish rule. In later years many Presidents pass by and take care of the Dominican Republic, and currently in 2015 as President, Danilo Medina currently rules.
Napoleon overthrew the King of Spain which was a huge deal because was then the ruler and later gets overthrown.
General Rafael Trujillo established personal dictatorship in which he created total chaos.
Congress approved the free trade agreement with the US and central American nations and this was important because it opened up relations with other countries and cultural diversity.
President Pedro Santana turned the Dominican Republic to Spanish Rule for a couple years and kept the Dominican Republic on track.
President Leonel Fernandez was re-elected because he defeated President Hipolito Mejia from chaos and disaster.
